YOUR CONTRIBUTIONS

Contributions to Friends of Shanklin are always appreciated.

Grants and donated funds are used to support Shanklin's existing programs, to offer new learning opportunities to the children, as well as to provide a more positive learning environment at the school.

Backpacks and School Supplies

Friends of Shanklin collects school supplies and backpacks in August of each year to be sure that all students have the materials they need for a positive school experience.

Book Giveaways

Friends of Shanklin's donations of new books to the school's existing spring book fair guarantee that every Shanklin child can go home with a new book for the summer.

Friends of Shanklin has recently expanded this giveaway to 2x per year, once in the fall and again in the spring.

Many thanks to St. Marks and the Junior Service League of Beaufort for generous grants awarded to FOS to help fund these Book Giveaways!

Leadership

Students who exhibit strong leadership characteristics throughout the year receive personal recognition at the end of the school year.

2023 Graduates from Battery Creek HS        return to inspire Shanklin students.

Instructional Resources

The challenges of reading, writing, and math improvement are hard enough but much more difficult without appropriate materials. Friends of Shanklin's donations for teaching resources --manuals, books, workbooks, manipulatives, etc. -- provide the school staff with some of the necessary tools to instruct students.

Teacher Appreciation

Friends of Shanklin hosts a light breakfast at the beginning and end of the year for teachers to thank them for their hard work and efforts throughout the year.

Habersham
Afternoon Book Club

Many thanks to Habersham's Afternoon Book Club (ABC) for purchasing and donating numerous books to Shanklin ES! Students of all reading levels will love the many high interest choices--fiction chapter books featuring humor, fantasy, mystery, sports, and animals; Newbery award winners; graphic novels; nonfiction information books; poetry, etc.

Great titles!

Thank you for fostering a love of reading! We want all children to become life-long readers.

These special wishes were outside teachers' budgets, yet needed in the classroom. Many thanks to the very generous members of the Habersham community who left with tags and dropped off these and many more gifts:

-flexible seating (wobble chairs, bucket seats, floor seats, rocker seats, stools)

-floor puzzles

-reinforcers (fidget spinners, light up wands)

-laptop charging/storage carts

-plastic storage cabinet with drawers

-personal laminator

-classroom carpet

-classroom doorbells

During October 2024 many dreams came true!

Thank you for showing your appreciation for

our dedicated & hard-working educators!

Wishes Do Come True!

Our own Heather Grimsley of Mary Lou's Table suggested a "Giving Tree" display with requests from Shanklin ES teachers.

Thank you, Heather, for your big heart and the care you provide to everyone--in addition to coffees, teas, and delicious pastries!

Many thanks to the Habersham Pantry!

Thanks to the Habersham community's generous donations, the Pantry treated student leaders to an ice cream social on May 29, 2024. These students were recognized for demonstrating the "Leader in Me" attributes central to the expectations at the school. Students learn and apply communication, collaboration, critical thinking, creativity, and social-emotional skills which are essential qualities for building strong leadership.

Congratulations, Student Leaders!

Many thanks to Robin & Jeff Taylor

August 2023

Many thanks to Robin & Jeff Taylor and all who came out for the plant sale benefitting Shanklin ES and Habersham Food Pantry. Beautiful flowers and happy neighbors made a sunny morning even better! We very much appreciate your kind generosity!
