Helping In Our Community

Throughout the year, there are many ways you can support Friends of Shanklin within the community.  For example, we gather school supplies, organize donations for school uniforms and book giveaways, and raise money to help support key programs at Shanklin Elementary. These and other opportunities all need helping hands working in our community to make them a success.

We are looking for volunteers interested in:

  • Communication  Help Friends of Shanklin's Board of Directors identify what, how, and where we provide information about Shanklin, volunteer needs, and Friends of Shanklin news.  Requires a couple of hours a month (at most) with flexibility on when/where any support is provided. We will take whatever time you want to give!

  • School Supplies Join FOS as we help Shanklin families get ready for school. In mid-August we ask for community support to gather an assortment of school supplies. Your generous donations ensure that students have the uniforms and supplies to begin the year.

  • Bake Sale Our major fundraising activity of the year, the FOS Bake Sale, is held every November just before Thanksgiving.  Assist the chairperson plan, organize, and execute this event. We definitely need bakers and welcome enthusiastic help behind the tables as sales assistants and cashiers.

  • Board of Directors  Be part of a small team that sets priorities and oversees programs sponsored by FOS.  Typically requires less than 5 hours a month from September through May.

Keep an eye on this section and our NextDoor posts to learn about what opportunities exist. If you are interested, contact Joy Kraft (jwkraft@aol.com).
